Specifically at the Zip Zap Lounge.

I’ve been quiet about this for a while, mostly because I wanted to get it right before I said anything. Now I can just say it: my latest novel is done, and it’s available now.
Trouble at the Zip Zap Lounge is a comic fantasy, which is a bit of a departure for me — though if you’ve read my other stuff, maybe not as much of one as it sounds.
Here’s what to expect: It’s 1999. Dale Fitch just lost his job, his apartment, his girlfriend, and pretty much everything else in the space of one very bad week. He ends up in an eclectic pinball bar called the Zip Zap Lounge, which turns out to be a lot stranger than it has any right to be — because it doesn’t stay in one place. It moves.
Between worlds.
You see, Dale’s got a talent he’s never quite understood. He can fix almost anything with his hands, mechanical or otherwise, and always could, ever since he was a kid. It’s the kind of thing that turns out to be extremely handy for a place with a bunch of old pinball games, some familiar, and some from … other places. The even weirder thing is, these machines are way more important than he realizes, and they’re somehow tied to a very old wizard who has a very old arch enemy, who has a very old grudge that had been simmering so long it had cooked down to poison.
That’s really all I’ll say about the plot. I don’t want to give away too much.
What I can tell you is that this book has let me do something I love and don’t always get to: take a large, strange, and extremely fun cast and send them off on one adventure after another. It’s fantasy at heart, but there’s some solid science fiction mixed in — magic and technology, strange worlds, stranger science, unlikely friendships, dangerous situations, and a lot of things going spectacularly wrong. I personally think it’s the most fun I’ve packed into a story, ever.
